Engaging With The Wider Industry
We also engage with the industry to advance the discourse – and align the industry on the latest thinking – including with the following organisations:
- Ad Net Zero
- Book Industry Communication
- Carbon Trust
- Cloud Carbon Footprint
- DTG
- DVB
- European Broadcasting Union
- Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft
- Ofcom
- Players for the Planet Alliance
This started with a partnership with the Carbon Trust, who provided the independent review and additional expertise to develop the white paper The Carbon Impacts of Video Streaming in 2021 – using the DIMPACT methodology and data.
We are also actively involved as an Industry Consult partner in the Media Sustainability Framework development for the advertising industry, being run by Ad Net Zero and GARM. We engage with other industry groups looking at digital emissions, such as Players for the Planet Alliance, the DTG and the European Broadcasting Union, and have presented our thinking at forums such as IBC, NextTV Europe, Frauenhofer Media Web Symposium, and the Les Arcs Film Festival.
We also contribute to other developments related to DIMPACT. For example, we are a consultation partner of the Decarbonising the Use Phase of Connected Devices Standard Development. This is being led by the Carbon Trust, with the support of Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Samsung and Sky. We also keep abreast of other developments, such as the Fraunhofer Institute’s Green Streaming project.
SLR, the team behind DIMPACT, have also supported Ofcom to estimate the emissions from streaming and digital terrestrial television at UK-market level.
